Syria Relief was set up in September 2011, as a UK-based Charity (UK Charity Registration Number 1143797), and is bound and governed by all the laws, rules and regulation controlling the work of charitable organizations in the United Kingdom. It was set up in response to the crisis that has engulfed Syria since March 2011, to provide help and support to Syrian families in need, in Syria and outside it. All the Trustees are highly regarded professionals in their individual fields, and all enjoy the trust and respect of the Syrian expatriate community across the UK. We all have extensive networks of links within the UK, in Syria, and elsewhere, which are immensely useful, both for raising funds, and perhaps more importantly, in distributing the money raised where it is most needed: inside Syria. With our wide network of contacts within Syria, we are optimally positioned to facilitate the dissemination of humanitarian aid directly to the areas where such aid is needed. Our flexibility and adaptability allow us to respond efficiently and promptly to the very fluid and changeable environment within Syria.
Syria Relief is a non-political, non-denominational, non-governmental organization, set up to co-ordinate a number of charitable activities that are taking place in the UK, to provide help and support to Syrian families and individuals in need, in Syria and outside it, irrespective of religion, geographical location, or political persuasion.
The need for such an organization has become more and more pressing over the past few months, and a group of dedicated, selfless and hardworking individuals came together to set up this Charity. Amongst the aims and objectives of Syria Relief are:
The relief of financial hardship among Syrian people in Syria, and throughout the world.
The relief of sickness and the preservation of health among Syrian people in Syria, and throughout the world.
The advancement of education for the public benefit of Syrian people in Syria, and throughout the world.
Our aims are ambitious and challenging. We intend to do our utmost to achieve them as best as we can.
We are working closely with other reputable international charitable organizations, to ensure maximum efficiency and to avoid duplication. We have established communication channels with charitable organizations that have existing relief activities in the Region. These links and channels will enable us to distribute the money that we raise efficiently and effectively. The money will be distributed in line with the plans agreed by the Board of Trustees, which will be based, strictly, on the urgency and priorities of need amongst the intended recipients. This will be carried out in a transparent and equitable way, and in full compliance with the ethical and legal requirements governing the work of charitable organizations.
Nevertheless, achieving those aims will only be possible with the support and generosity of those who were moved by the images of suffering and distress. the decent people who will not be able to rest when compatriots and fellow humans are in need of their urgent help.
