Goodenough Arab Cultural Week – Detailed Programme

We are delighted to be able to announce the details of the Arab Cultural Week organized at Goodenough College in London.

This colourful and varied programme will encompass an exciting selection of activities, reflecting the diversity of contemporary Arab culture.

Here is the detailed Programme:-

Monday 4 February:

Oriental Divan -  8:00 PM – GBar, William Goodenough House:

An evening of Middle Eastern music and drinks to launch Arab Cultural Week and the exhibition Unfolding Truths: Political Satire and Popular Revolt, which will open next door in the William Goodenough House Large Common Room. The exhibition features cartoons from Syria, Palestine and Egypt, with a universal resonance.  Exhibition dates: 4 – 10 February.

Tuesday 5 February:

Port Talk: 8:00 PM – Churchill Room, London House.

Egyptian cartoonist Tarek Shahin will talk about his work and political satire in the Middle East in the context of the Arab Spring. Talk in conjunction with the exhibition: Unfolding Truths: Political Satire and Popular Revolt.

 

Wednesday 6 February:

Film Projection – 8:00 PM – Freddie’s Bar, London House.

 

Thursday 7 February:

A Chance Encounter – 8:00 PM – London House Large Common Room.

A reading of Chance Encounter: a new short play by Syrian writer Mohammad Al-Attar will be followed by a discussion on the future of Syria.

Friday 8 February:

Group visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum Middle-East Exhibit – leaves London House, 2:00 PM.

 

Saturday 9 February:

Arabian Night Party – 8:00 PM – Room TBA.

A night of fun and feasting. Tickets: £10 members/alumni; £12 visitors.

Sunday 10 February:

Oriental Breakfast – 10:00 AM – William Goodenough House, Large Common Room

Film Projection – 8:00 PM – Freddie’s Bar, London House.

 

This magnificent event promises to be a joyous celebration of Arab contemporary culture, and a fantastic opportunity to support the work of Syria Relief.

We are very grateful to Goodenough College for their most appreciated support, and for their kindness and generosity in promoting the work of Syria Relief.
